Arnica is a herbaceous perennial plant, with daisy-like flowers that are bright yellow. Arnica is native to Europe and central Asia where requires a cool climate and dry winters.

Species information

Distribution: Central and northern Europe

Habitat: Meadows, moors and heathland.

Form: Herb

Scientific name: Arnica montana L. (Compositae)

Arnica has been used as a topical wound healing remedy and to relieve bruises, sprains and joint pains. It has also been used to alleviate sore throats and insect bites. Some of the active components of arnica, such as a compound called helenalin, can reduce inflammation.
