Jungle Tripping

In the fourth programme, Chris and Xand live with the Asháninka, the indigenous people of the rainforests of Peru.

The Asháninka have been a people under siege since the days of the Spanish conquistadors, and current threats include those from oil companies, drug traffickers, colonists, illegal lumberers and illegal road builders. Even ‘benevolent’ individuals and organisations such as missionaries and conservation groups are having a negative impact on this beleagured nation.

During their time in the rainforest, the van Tullekens learn about the ways of Asháninka healing and Shamanistic beliefs, including the powers of ayahuasca.

  Another interesting look into different ways of diagnosing and treating certain illnesses and diseases. Though my sympathies were with Chris when he chucked his guts up after taking the hallucogenic mixture. I have to say that I've always been very skeptical about these other non-western way of dealing with medical dilemma's, but I'm now coming around to the idea that some of them may be of some use. I'm just glad that I'm not doing any of them throughout my Nursing Degree! yet another great programe, keep it up boys!

  I somehow managed to miss this episode after religiously watching all the others. Grrr! Does anyone know whether it's planned to be repeated any time soon (or even better, available on 4oD?). I can't seem to find this information anywhere.... Excellent series though. I seriously hope they do more : )

  I only know it's repeated the same night straight after on the freeview channel channel4 + 1 or something. Otherwise than that I don't know when its repeated, try a search on google might help you. I'm hoping it will come out on DVD :)

  OMG! The series has ended :( Too soon in my opinion... Hopefully do another one - my congrats to the VT's and the rest of the C4 crew who made it possible. A job well done! Chris, I felt SO sorry for you in the first half!! Why do people put themselves through that? Just don't do drugs in the first place, I guess. Didn't quite get the importance of blowing the smoke into their heads... Just an excuse to have a fag! Haha... "Did you puke up an old girlfriend?" - Loved it!

  Well, that was amazing, apart from the bit where Chris almost pucked out the whole content of his insides...i was eating, and i now will never be able to eat a bowl of ceral again in my life...so thanks. Anyway, i think this was by far the best episode so far but i really felt a true sadness that this was the last one!! i really think Chris and Xand should do somthing like this again!! they are amazing!!! Also, all the different types of leaves and bark that have been used in medecine in the past four episodes, really do look the same to me!! i really dont know how they can tell one from the other!
