we were fortunate to be in a part of the world where twins are considered good luck. The biaka gave us special twin names - comu (the older twin) and pema (the younger one). So I was pema and xand was comu and we were treated very well as a result. We met these twin girls on our way into the forest in one of the villages we passed through. In other parts of the world we would not have been greeted so well - in parts of south america twins used to be killed at birth; in some cultures they are still considered a sign of bad luck as only animals are supposed to have multiple births!
