My mum remembers gargling with salted water to cure sore throats.

    I do this whenever I get a sore throat. As soon as you feel it coming on disolve half a teaspoon of salt into an inch or two of very warm water and gargle for as long as you can. Spit and do it again until it's all gone. Do it 3 or 4 times a day. Works a treat.
