Honey, who cured the kids?

contributed by ArkAngel 22 Jan | 16:59

There was an interesting piece of US research reported last month about honey being better for children’s coughs than over-the-counter medicines. They tested buckwheat honey against a commercial cough suppressant and guess which won?

Honey was better at reducing the frequency and severity of night-time coughs. It was also more effective in improving children’s quality of sleep.

The research was carried out at Penn State College of Medicine in Pennsylvania, USA, and reported in the journal ‘Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine’.

Apparently honey is not recommended for under 1s due to the risk of bacteria.
