beating cancer

contributed by kelly 22 Jan | 22:22

5 years ago this month my mother was diagnosed terminal and given just months to live, as you can imagine my life fell apart, a lot of soul searching and a lot of cure searching.
I tried to learn everything i could about anything and everything that would help fight this. I learnt that Shiitake mushroom’s have cancer fighting cells, as do any vegetables etc that contain selenium, that the right mixture of potassium, selenium , iron and traces of other vitamins and minerals will improve your chances one hundred fold. My Mum, now five years on sticks to the diet and things we worked out for her, almost religiously. That wasn’t her only treatment, I researched shamanism, I practised affirmations everynight, even took her 3 times to a healer. Who knows what it was that made it work, but she’s still here now. For all the vitamin’s, minerals and prayers, she didn’t suffer the horrible treatments they give patients here chemo / radio therapy. The loss of everything. Theres a lot more to alternative medicine than many ever give thought too.

wow - that's an amazing story, kelly. i hope your mum continues to win her battle. my aunt in japan has been battling leukemia for around 10 years now, and has a similar tale of using traditional "folk" remedies that have kept her alive and kicking. she has been going to the same traditional medicine/herbalist in japan since she was a young woman (she's 70 now), and he prescribed certain herbal remedies and nutritional advice. sadly, last autumn after the nagging from one of her friends who believes more in modern western medicine, she decided to try it out. this new doctor put her on fortnightly chemo treatments, which made her bleed from her ears and feel so bad she couldn't do anything for days afterwards. after 3 months of feeling awful, she decided to go back to her old doctor. thankfully, she's feeling much better now and is able to look after my 93 year old grandmother, do her volunteer work, and generally live the life of a normal healthy person. i think it's a shame that western cultures tend to have such a holier-than-thou attitude towards traditional remedies just because they haven't been 'discovered' by men in white coats in a lab.

Kelly, what vegetables contain Selenium? and can you give a bit more detail about the diet that worked for your mother. What kind of cancer has she been beating? (My mother is also struggling against cancer, hence my interest.)

Hi ArkAngel, Selenium is present in many things, lima beans, spinach, broccoli all the typically healthy stuff, peas, mushrooms, very important to use organic and not chemically treated foods too. I've put a link below about the shiitake mushrooms: http://astronutrition.com/mushrooms-69/ well worth investigating. basically they are a major boost to the immune system so they actually help the body start fighting back itself. I'll hunt out some more info and get back to you soon as poss.

Just wanted to say thank you Mikoffey, Completely agree with you about the men in white coats turning their noses up at herbal / alternative therapies! Back when my mum still attended hospice meetings for terminally ill patients, I tried to volunteer and help out at the drop in sessions / coffee mornings designed to get sufferers together, my offer was declined, I was deemed too optimistic and might have given false hope to the groups that they were happily preparing to die. Following that i begged my mum to stop going to any more meetings, fearing that kind of environment would drain her will to fight. Mental attitude and confidence plays a major part in the recovery from any illness, mind over matter and all that. Perhaps if there was a little more faith and belief in medicine we'd all stand a better chance.

ArkAngel, Hope the shroom research went well? So much information available to those who are open to it. I'm sorry to hear about your mum, It's an awful thing to have a loved one dealing with cancer. If there is any specific info or anything you would want me to research for you I'd be happy to help in any way. You asked what type my mum had, she had lung cancer, a 10cm tumor attached to her main artery and pressing against her oesaphegas, she wasn't able to breath, eat or drink for a time, due to the location the tumor was inoperable according to oncologists hence the terminal diagnosis. Even her specialist and the macmillan nurses they sent to her to prepare her for the worst were so surprised and amazed that she is now back to the lively mum, wife and grandmother she always was. I noticed on your profile you have noted yourself as a pantheist, may I say wow, perhaps i live in an unenlightened area of th UK but everytime I've called myself that i've had to then explain what it actually meant. I didn't mention also in my initial story the use of crystals coinciding with the healer we visited, a noted healer, who has submitted himself to university laboratory tests to fully prove what he was doing, certainly no charlatan! If you are interested check his web page, I'll put the link at the bottom, basically, he stood in front of ten petrie dishes of live cancer cells and without direct hands on contact he had the desired effect, he did this while attached to laboratory monitors in a full laboratory environment, incidentally his wife was given 6 months due to cancer too, think that must be 20 years ago now. I looked at your other stories submitted and have to say I'd like to correspond with you directly if that would be ok, Understand if not, the web is a scary place to meet people so i am always wary myself. If that would be ok I could send submit my email address for you next reply? Kelly http://www.matthewmanning.com/ = healer

hi kelly. your story is amazing - and very good to hear that your mother's still well. I thought i might put in a good word for the men in white coats (being one of them)! In fact many of us are quite open minded about traditional/alternative remedies, and we also know how unpleasant modern treatments for diseases such as cancer can be. Ultimately almost all of us just want our patients to get better and increasingly many of my colleagues are doing courses in chinese medicine and other complementary therapies though we do tend to have a bias to the treatments that we understand best. My personal view is that there are very few universal treatments - we all respond differently to different drugs - whether in plant or pill form - and the best doctors/therapists will recognise this and attempt to alter treatment if it's not working or recommend another kind of therapy. There is currently little incentive for companies to research plant remedies as they're very hard to make money out of and so the evidence-base for many of these treatments remains poor. Someone who has done a huge amount of research in this area (and I tend to focus more on the science) is Jane Plant who wrote "your life in your hands." It is a fascinating, though controversial book about diet and cancer and i recommend it to many people. I have had some very interesting experiences with shamans (the final episode of my TV program focuses on shamanic medicine in the amazon). It is difficult to put yourself in such a different mind-set after a western medical training but i was very impressed with the ways the shamans we met treated their patients and ultimately they got some interesting results. very good luck to you and your mother. Dr Chris

Hi Kelly, shroom research was very fruitful or vegetal or fungal or whatever the right word is. Thank you for your kind thoughts and the inspiring story of your mother's recovery. Now as soon as you raised the subject of crystals I must say I could hear the likes of Bad Science (www.badscience.net) sharpening their pencils in readiness for a full-on assault. It's quite a big leap from herbal and dietary health approaches to crystals and the kind of healing you've mentioned. I think the problem with bringing the two together like this is that sceptics of the one are inclined to extend their scepticism to the other. I don't think it's a good idea to publish your email address on this (or probably any other) website. I'm happy to continue to connect via the Medicine Chest if that's ok with you. I suspect you've a good store of natural remedies so I look forward to your next stories.

Hi it is wonderful that you went out there to find the information to help your mum,I am so glad for you all. Many people would find it hard to embrace such "alternative" methods but I have heard so many incredible stories of recovery. A fantastic book which you have probably read is " A Time to Heal" by Beata Bishop it is a very inspiring read for those who either have cancer or for their loved ones who are trying to help. I am studying nutrition and feel blessed to be starting the journey into this exciting field of looking at prevention and getting to the root cause of problems. Thank you for sharing your story!!

Excellent story. I have read bout something similar on the following websites. Essentially cancer mould fungus virus etc cannot live in an alkaline state. If we eat a diet that is rich in plant based foods we will not get sick. This means eliminating meat, dairy, yeast, sugar and alcohol. I am explaining this in very simple terms, please refer to the following websites to get more detail. http://www.snyderhealth.com/program.htm http://www.phmiracleliving.com/ Another great help in beating cancer can be found on www.sirjasonwinters.com Thanks
