Oil of Cloves

contributed by ChrisGraham 30 Jan | 11:50

I always carry a small bottle of oil of cloves in my hiking medical kit. If you get a toothache whilst out on the trail, just put a drop or two on the affected tooth to dull the pain until you get back to civilisation.

I also use clove oil for tooth ache, rubbed onto the gum. Also in a hot drink with lemon, honey and chilli for a cold remedy.

Weirdly enough, I've now heard this story twice today. You spend years going without talking about cloves and then suddenly clove stories arrive like the proverbial buses.

Further to my last, this is what my colleague Sally B. told me: "My mother used to put a clove in a carie. I always take a small bottle of oil of cloves on field trips and have used it to prevent toothache - have to be careful as it is v.strong."
