Ears and Onions

contributed by Smurf 30 Jan | 15:14

My mummy comes from a family where traditional medicine has always been used. She is one of 10 siblings born and reared in a small Irish village. Her mother Ellen in addition to rearing her children, was a shopkeeper, and unofficial nurse to many in the village. They had some animals and she rarely called a vet but nursed the animals herself ( hens, pigs and cattle). This is just one of many remedies she used and passed on to her children. Lets keep it going. For ear ache an onion is cut in half then heated in the oven, removed and placed in a scarf or long piece of cloth which is wrapped around the head with the onion placed close to the ear. Leave for a few hours or over night. The heat coming from the onion is the healing element.
