Apricots against cancer
My friend Bernard told me about the use of apricot kernels to treat and prevent cancer. The kernel is the bit inside the apricot seed. Apparently the kernels, which taste very bitter (I tried one at Bernard’s house), contain some form of Vitamin B. The bitter taste, I’ve since read, comes from cyanide – which probably explains why there’s some controversy around this remedy! I’ve come across this explanation: “our healthy cells have an enzyme that helps protect them from the cyanide, but cancer cells don’t have the enzyme and so get zapped by the cyanide”.
